REHABILITATION

Rehabilitation consists of exercises that are recommeded for both treating back pain and preventing future episodes of pain. The doctors will prescribe exercises. Some will be done under a supervised clinic visit and others will be done at home.

Exercises help by squeezing out excess fluid from the discs between the bones of the spine and pumping in fresh fluid. This sponge action introduces nutrients to the disc. When there is lack of exercise, swelling increases and discs become malnourished and degenerated.

Other benefits of exercise are keeping the ligaments and tendons flexible and strenghening the muscles that support the spine. These benefits lead to alleviating pain and preventing pain from returning.
